“God never gives you more than you can handle.” What does this statement really mean? What I have found throughout my years as a spiritual leader and life coach is that most people who use this statement don’t sound convincing when they say it. It is yet another statement that people use without realizing that they are negatively influencing people’s views of God. In traditional Christianity, we are taught how separate we are from God in the first place, and this has created an energy or a vibration in which many people are disconnected from God. People are often angry because they still live in this reality and think, How could God do this to me?

This is where the rubber meets the road. This is where a person either develops into spiritual maturity or remains forever committed to being a victim. We are not all standing in a receiving line for God to give us certain events based on decisions made about who we are. We are not people being “done unto” with a bunch of stuff to deal with.

The belief that God never gives us more than we can handle dismisses the reality that we are participants in our lives. People have a choice of how many children to have. They have a choice of how many things in life to take on and of what to get involved in. This statement robs us of any responsibility. No one in life seems to be spared senseless tragedies; some are evident and can be seen from the outside, whereas others are carried deep inside.

When we own what is on our path and look to this path of least resistance, not only will it enlighten us, it will free us.
