“That’s not my problem.”

Perhaps we could say this before we learned better. A butterfly flapping its wings in Australia affects us. If something is happening to you, it is happening to me. I learned this when I was younger and a very good softball player. Softball was the vehicle of expression that kept me impassioned and energized. Yet if the other eight players were not any good, I wasn’t going anywhere, no matter how fabulously I played. My immense talents meant nothing without the team to go with me. What other people do on our planet is our problem. How people raise their children by not raising them is our problem. Guns killing people is our problem. You would not make the statement if the gun was pointing at you. Someone dying of hunger every three seconds is our problem. We may be fabulous, but until we collectively wake up, we are a planet that is depleting itself.
