When we were kids we had so much structured “taking care of me time”. We had time at recess and physical education and time to draw and question and play with friends. As adults, we need to remember this reality and attempt to put it into perspective. Life is not interesting and motivating if we only work and have no play or ME time.
If you take the words:
- AccomplishMEnt
- AchieveMEnt
- TiME
- MEmory
- EmpowerMEnt
…they all share the word ME
ME time doesn’t have to be for long periods of time. In stress management we use to identify with all kinds of ideas that could help by keeping it simple:
- A walk around the building at the office or hospital
- Taking different roads to our work
- Humorous gadgets for the workplace that we could use to tease coworkers or patients
- Pets that give us love and energy
- A movie day
- Time near or at the water
- Exercise
- Blowing bubbles
- Writing a note to someone you haven’t spoken to in awhile
- Mend your heart
- Forgive yourself
- Take a dance class
- Do Taebo
- Watch a comedy
- Look for a butterfly
- Get out in Nature
Do something different every week even if it’s just buying something new at the grocery store. Buy yourself a small gift or get something you’ve always wanted…lay it away if necessary. However, do not go out of your means……that adds stress.
