The key to individuality is not being free from working on something; it is how the something is working through you. When you are not you, you hurt you and you die a little.
Take the time to write all the areas and moments of your life in which you are not truly being you. (This does not mean you will be required to leave these areas in order to be you, but writing it down will help you see how you continue to leave yourself.)
