“Judge not, that ye be not judged,” (Matthew 7:1) is a
simple scripture we can state as a mantra, yet have difficulty
following. The first phase is to understand what judgment
is not. Judgment is not the same as discernment. We say,
“Do not allow your spirituality to replace your common
sense.” God has blessed us with wisdom.
When we use discernment in a situation, we are
working with facts and truth to make the best choice for
all concerned. Jesus declared this as right thinking. When
we judge, we decide that others have not made the right
choice, and self righteously we feel we are divinely capable
of guiding their directions.
“Judgments prevent us from seeing the
good that lies beyond appearances.”
