As a spiritual leader and as a human being who has felt very connected to Spirit since I was five, I have always been fascinated with the idea of why people do not change that much. I have also been fascinated with why people become disenchanted and feel disconnected so early in their lives. I totally understood this in the area where I was raised because people had already been so heavily influenced by being told what to do, what to feel, what to believe in, and how life was going to be. “Don’t expect too much, and you won’t be disappointed” is a mantra I remember all too well. When we have sacrificed our ability to use free will and choice and have given this powerful ability over to preachers, doctors, 24/7 news, and other realities, we can change only as the influencer changes.
These influencers cast a great shadow over us and limit our ability to grow into who we are meant to be. A tree with another tree hovering over it will eventually bow down. The same is true for us as we continue to give up our seat, our place in this life. All of a sudden life does not have a place for us. Our childhood dreams and goals become nothing more than shadows left on our trail.
